LA’s Best Kept Secret: The Oyster Boys

LA's Best Kept Secret: The Oyster Boys

If you happen to read last week’s post on 8 things in Hollywood Locals Love, then you’ll know that I love the Farmers Market. It’s my favorite part of the week and we try to go every Sunday. Why? Because I also love Oysters and the Oyster Boys at the Market make me oh so very happy.

LA's Best Kept Secret: The Oyster Boys

I discovered the Oyster Boys a few years ago when we first moved to Hollywood in 2014 and I keep going back every single Sunday. They have a wide range of fresh shellfish and they write the names of the oysters they have in stock that day on a big whiteboard. Usually around 10 different kinds.

Not only do they have a list written up, but you can take a moment to have a chat with them. They will be able to tell what is the best that day. If you’ve never had an oyster, let them know what you like (briny or sweeter) and they’ll give you the best advice. The boys are very knowledgable and can tell you all about the origins of the oysters too!

The boys drive up from San Diego every Sunday morning with freshly pulled oysters to shuck or sell whole. They also have mussels and clams and provide lemons, an array of hot sauces (Crystals Louisiana is the best!!) and horseradish.

At $2 per shucked oyster, your Sunday just got awesome

My perfect Oyster: A squirt of lemon juice, a dot of hot sauce, and a dot of horseradish. Swirl with my finger and drain.

The key is not to cover up the taste of the Oyster, but enhance it.

Their tent is located at the South endĀ of Ivar Ave. If you can’t make it to the market, they cater events! (Basically, I’m booking them for my future wedding.)

Nice to meet you!

Well hello! My name is Alyssa!
A few years ago, I met my boyfriend. I had just graduated college and was a struggling writer. He traveled the world for work. We became a team and I turned the way we live our lives into my job as a travel blogger! The tricky part is, I never know where we are headed next! So tune in and follow me as I navigate the unknown.
